Who We Are
Salt House Church began in March 2015, after Trinity Lutheran Church intentionally closed their doors, allowing new life to emerge. The vision was to create a place for progressive Jesus-followers who were looking for community, initially targeting young adults who had fallen away from or not found a home in other churches. Salt House’s vision quickly expanded to include everybody.
Salt House has steadily grown and thrived, developing a culture that values authenticity, creativity, presence, process, playfulness, and growth, where everyone is welcome no matter what.
Salt House holds Jesus at the center of our worship and shared life together, without requiring conformity. Whether doubting, curious, uncertain, recovering, faithfully following, or seeking, there is room to relate to Jesus and explore the life of God.
Salt House is part of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, engaging folks locally in-person at the center of the Eastside of Seattle, and those around the globe through our online worship streaming, groups, and podcast.

What We Believe
We believe the Holy Spirit calls us together to find a home in God’s beloved community, learning to love like Jesus, as salt and light for the world.
Our Mission
Our mission is to be a church that lives by faith, is known by love, and joins God’s movement of healing, justice and hope for the world.
Our Core Practices
Here are seven core values and practices that have emerged in who we are and how we practice our faith and life together. As we engage with scripture, the life of Jesus, and the transformative dynamic of the Spirit of God, we’ve discovered these values and practices that are shaping our community.
- Being change(d) - Living through transition is central to who we are.
- Engaging in the needs of homelessness on the Eastside (especially through the New Bethlehem Day Center).
- Eating together – Always having Holy Communion and having meals here twice a month after worship and challenging each other to meet at tables with others throughout our week – because good and sacred things happen when we eat together.
- Generosity – Giving where we want our hearts to go.
- Hearing God and asking our two questions: What is God saying? What am I going to do about it?
- Practicing radical welcome - We say it every Sunday morning - and it boils down to this: Jesus welcomes and affirms all people and so do we. And we are made better as a community through diversity.
- Stories matter. Both sides of story-telling: making room and curiosity to hear one another’s stories, and also having the courage to share our own story here in community. For when stories are shared, that distance between us gets smaller, as our stories shimmer with connections. When stories are shared, we also hear God’s story in our stories.
